Frequently asked questions

Do I need a djembe to play along with the drumming?

For anyone just starting out, you can still have some fun and make music without djembe. However, if you want to practice your technique and really feel into the sound quality of a djembe it is better to have your own djembe. There are plenty of second hand djembe’s available or you can even rent a djembe at certain drum shops. Each and every djembe sounds different so it’s best to go into a store and try some out before you buy one.

Do I need a djembe to play along with the drumming classes?

For anyone just starting out, you can still have some fun and make music without djembe. However, if you want to practice your technique and really feel the sound quality of a djembe it is better to have your own djembe. We have reasonably priced djembes at our shop so you can purchase one today.

How do I know what is the djembe right level for me?

As a basic principle anyone who has only been playing for a few months should stick to the beginner level. If you have already played other musical instruments, particularly other drums you might find that you can quickly progress into intermediate level. Advanced level is for anyone who has played for a least a year and can comfortably play in various time signatures at a fast tempo.

Can kids join in?

Absolutely! Our djembe lessons are targetted at kids over 10, however dance and mindful sessions are for all ages. We are in process of developing our Creativity program for kids of all ages!

Can I cast videos to my TV?

Absolutely, if you have an external Chrome Cast you can watch on your TV, or you can plug in your laptop to watch.

What is a practice hat for?

The practice hat is essential to play at home if you live with others or have neighbours near by! It quietens the sound without reducing it so much that the notes can’t be heard. A fantastic way to practice without annoying anyone.

How do I join classes for well-being?

Our site is designed so you can access classes on demand and follow the suggested class structure. Each month we are also planning to run live classes (also recorded for future viewing).

What size drum should I buy?

If you have never drummed before and just want to try it out, a small djembe will be fine. A larger drum is slightly more comfortable for your hands and will set you up for the future if you plan to take your drumming to the next level.
